The
New York Yankees symbol was created in 1909 and replaced the separated N & Y. The Yankees symbol was designed in 1877 by Louis Tiffany as a medal for the first policeman shot on duty in New York, Officer John McDowell. The New York Yankees symbol looks like a N and Y on top of one another. The legendary Yankees emblem has been in existence for over 100 years.

The New York Yankee symbol is used on everything from
New York Yankee Flags,
Yankee Clocks,
Yankee License Plates,
License Plate Frames,
Towels,
Beer Buckets, and of course,
Baseball Hats. The Yankees emblem is a rich part of the New York Yankees history.
The Yankees history includes 27 World Championships, not only the most in Major League Baseball, but of all professional sports. The Yankees were established in the early 1900’s and were originally the Baltimore Orioles. Originally owned by the Highlanders the Yankees were the NY Highlanders. The name New York “Yankees”, as history would show, was synonymous with “Americans”. In 1913 the “Highlanders” were forever known as the “Yankees”.
